Welcome to Waste Services (UK) Ltd

A by-product of every business large or small is waste, be it an office bin of A4 paper, or tonnes of construction spoil. Commerce and industry faces increasing landfill and other costs for waste disposal as a result of national and European regulation. As a result, effective and cost-beneficial waste policies are firmly on the business management agenda.

Waste Services tailors its services to provide measurable cost-benefits, as well as compliance with environmental regulation, using a variety of collection containers, such as wheeled bins, rear-end loaders, roll-on-and-off containers and skips, serviced by a modern vehicle fleet.

Waste Services’ pay-by-weight collection service provides a precise, computer-generated load weight record so that companies can measure waste minimisation effectiveness. Compaction systems and materials balers, together with a variety of bin weigh systems, enhance operational efficiency. Standard lift and disposal rates are pre-agreed, as are regular collection schedules, though Waste Services’ flexibility caters for rapidly-changing or emergency needs.

Waste Services is licensed to handle inorganic and organic solids and fluids (including Category 1 and 2 animal by products) as well as hazardous materials.

NEW PRE-TREATMENT WASTE REGULATIONS

Are you one of the ignorant 80%? That’s the alarming percentage of SMEs which, in a YouGov survey for Taylor Intelligence, said they were unaware of the Pre-Treatment regulations that became effective from the end of October.

If you produce any non-hazardous, non-liquid business-related waste that is sent to landfill, you are now legally required to treat that waste before it is disposed of. From 30th October 2007, this obligation was placed on all organisations by the Landfill Directive which aims to reduce waste going to landfill. The regulations also ban all non-hazardous liquid waste from landfill.

To comply with these regulations, there are some simple but effective things you can do. You can separate your waste yourself (i.e. collect materials such as paper, cardboard, plastic, glass and wood separately, or separate them once collected but before they are disposed of), and then recycle one or more of those materials.  Alternatively, you can ask your waste removal contractor to do this for you. But don’t do what a third of SMEs do – take their business waste home for domestic recycling, which is illegal.

If you’re already separating and recycling some of your waste, please remember that you still have to produce verifiable evidence of this pre-treatment, as required by the Environment Agency. Waste Services can manage all the administration for you to ensure that your business remains legally compliant.

If you’re doing either of these things, then you already comply with the regulations. But if you don’t and would like some good advice, Waste Services’ experts would be delighted to talk you through the options. The contact page has all the details you need.
